What is a reefer container?    

Reefer container, refers to a special designed container that has good heat insulation and can maintain certain low temperature requirements, and is suitable for transporting and storing fish, meat, fresh fruits, vegetables and other perishable foods.  

The basic types of reefer containers are insulated container, external reefer container, built-in reefer container, liquid nitrogen and dry ice reefer container, freezing plate reefer container, etc.

A reefer container is generally provided with a built-in refrigerating device at the front of the container. When the freezer is working, the cold air is blown out from the ventilation pipe at the rear end of the container, through the gap between the convex bars on the container wall and the ventilation guide rail at the bottom of the container, and pass the cold air suction port on the front wall, back to the refrigerator for recycling. In order to improve the cooling effect, the entire reefer container is covered with insulating materials on the inside of the walls, top and bottom of the container. The working temperature of the reefer container is between -60°C and +30°C. According to the needs of the cargo, it can be automatically adjusted to keep the temperature inside the box unchanged.

The insulated container is mainly used to load fresh goods such as fruits and vegetables. Generally, a refrigerant such as dry ice is used to prevent the temperature in the container from rising excessively, and the usual heat preservation time is around 72 hours. There is sufficient heat protection all around the container and up and down.

Precautions in use of reefer containers. Compared with ordinary containers, reefer containers have some special equipment in addition to the thermal insulation layer (commonly known as foam layer) wrapped inside the container. 

Summary of common problems in the use of reefer containers.

Please load the goods reasonably. If you load too much goods into the box, the maximum load height should not exceed the red load line of the container. Otherwise, the cold air circulation inside the freezer will be affected, causing poor wind circulation, resulting in poor insulation effect or even failure of the freezer.

When loading a reefer container, the cargo must be placed to the edge of the T-floor. This ensures even air circulation throughout the container. If the cargo is not enough to fill the T-floor, it is recommended to fill the empty space with filler or padding. This method can also be used to fill gaps in the intermediate floorboard between pallets. By following the guidelines below, you can ensure that the air in the reefer container circulates around the item in the desired route, rather than bypassing the entire container.

The temperature of the goods should be consistent with the set temperature to avoid damage to the goods that may be caused by hot loading.Please do not start the freezer equipment when the door is opening. If the freezer is cooled with the container door open, it is easy to condense the moisture in the air on the condenser coil, which will lead to severe frost on the condenser coil, resulting in no refrigeration of the reefer container.
