Innovative Solution for Hazardous Materials Container Transportation: Cost Reduction and Higher Efficiency
Sep 05,2025

In the field of international trade and logistics, how to reduce costs and break through transportation restrictions under compliance requirements has always been a focus of many enterprises. Recently, we successfully solved the transportation challenges of 20HC hazardous materials container for a client who owns multiple yards in North America and engages in container trading, modification, and accessory distribution. Through an innovative solution, we achieved significant cost reduction and efficiency improvement, winning high recognition from the client.

Project Background: Tackling Dual Challenges of Transportation and Cost

The client received an order for 20HC hazardous materials container from end-users. However, the conventional container transportation method (declaring, transporting, and customs-clearing the container as a separate commodity) had two major pain points: first, additional tariffs would be incurred, increasing overall costs; second, various transportation restrictions might affect delivery timeliness. To help the client overcome these difficulties, we quickly stepped in to start planning solutions.

Solution Planning: An Innovative Idea for "Multiple Benefits in One Move"

Upon receiving the client's request, we immediately conducted a comprehensive assessment of the project's actual situation, including key factors such as container loading capacity and product matching. After in-depth analysis, we proposed an innovative solution: using the hazardous materials container as an SOC (Shipper-Owned Container) and transporting it to the designated yard together with the client's ordered container accessories, lashing materials, and other products. This solution not only avoids tariff issues in conventional transportation but also makes full use of container space to achieve intensive cargo transportation.

Implementation Process: Precise Operations to Address Multiple Challenges

After the client confirmed the order intention, we quickly collaborated with the container factory to rush the production of container specifications, drawings, and other important documents, and sent them to the client for confirmation immediately to ensure accuracy in the production process. In the cargo allocation phase, given that the maximum load of the hazardous materials container is 10 tons, we conducted precise container distribution and measurement to strictly control the load of each container, ensuring transportation safety.

Meanwhile, considering that 20HC containers need to be paired into 40HC units for shipment, we suggested the client add 2 more units to the original 10, based on their actual needs and transportation efficiency. Finally, it was decided that 6 units would be sent to the client's California yard and 6 to the Texas yard. This adjustment not only met transportation requirements but also balanced the cargo distribution among different yards, facilitating subsequent end-delivery.

Delivery and Acceptance: Efficient Execution Ensures Satisfactory Container Receipt

After the hazardous materials containers rolled off the production line, we quickly mobilized the logistics and freight forwarding teams to efficiently complete a series of operations including container pickup, booking, and loading. We monitored the entire transportation process to ensure the goods arrived on time and safely. After careful inspection, the client expressed great satisfaction with the condition of the containers—all were undamaged and ready for direct sale, successfully completing the acceptance.

Project Results: Cost Reduction and Efficiency Gains Win High Client Recognition

This project, through the combined shipping mode of SOC containers with cargo, brought significant benefits to the client: it reduced sea freight costs and container import customs clearance fees by half, greatly easing the client's cost pressure. Moreover, since the containers were loaded with the client's own goods, the risk of contamination or damage during transportation was reduced, ensuring cargo quality. The client highly praised the results of this cooperation and fully recognized our professional capabilities and efficient services.

In the future, CIMC Equilink will continue to uphold the spirit of innovation, deeply explore optimization opportunities in the logistics and transportation field, and provide more clients with customized, efficient, and cost-effective logistics solutions to help enterprises move forward steadily in international trade.
